Jefferson Matters: A Main Street & Chamber Community has hired Matt Wetrich as events and tourism coordinator.

Wetrich brings 15 years of experience in developing, marketing, and implementing public programming and events. He was the co-organizer of Jefferson’s RAGBRAI overnight stop in 2018, and he has been instrumental in implementing and marketing the BOOST organization and event.

“Being a part of the growth of the city of Jefferson and Greene County as a whole has been some of the most rewarding work I’ve done in my 15 years of living here,” Wetrich said. “The momentum that continues to build is infectious; I love the opportunity to be an even bigger part of this growth as the events and tourism coordinator. My wife Toni and I love raising our family here in Jefferson; it really is a fantastic place to raise kids.”

Wetrich has served on the Jefferson city council since 2018. He holds a degree from Iowa State University in liberal studies and associate degrees in art and horticulture from Indian Hills Community College. Prior to his current position, Wetrich was employed by Carroll County Conservation as a naturalist.

“Matt brings a wealth of experiences to JM:MS&CC. We are fortunate to have someone with a strong skill set in event planning, marketing, creativity, and communications,” said JM:MS&CC director Beth Vander Wilt.

Jamie Daubendiek, president of JM:MS&CC, added, “We are thrilled to have Matt join our organization. Matt has been actively involved in many organizations in our community and we are delighted to have him in the role of tourism and event coordinator. He will do a great job getting local residents involved in the many activities Jefferson Matters puts on and welcoming new visitors to our community. We are very excited for the times ahead.
